Case Studies

Created a detailed assessment framework for West Midlands stakeholders to determine how to allocate £3m of Commonwealth Games legacy funding to a diverse portfolio of sporting and cultural events, providing evidence of impact in line with the region’s values and priority outcomes.

Advised the project team developing the Tyrol Sport Events Strategy, which outlines the Austrian state’s long-term plans to ensure sport remains part of Tyrol’s identity, strengthening the club landscape, promoting youth work, conveying fun in exercise and awakening emotions. The strategy will ensure the use of sporting events sustainably, and form the future basis for the state’s funding allocation to build on a diverse portfolio of events, varying in terms of location, size and sport.

Led a project to determine the future of the British Rowing Senior Championships within a framework of a coherent National Events Strategy, leading to the implementation of a new format for the event in 2024; and prepared a detailed assessment of the considerations for hosting future World Rowing events at the UK multi-lane venues.

Prepared pre-event assessment tools for host cities and event owners to plan for impact of major events including Visit Norway and the Government of Wales, and post event impact reports for events including the 2023 World Archery Championships and 2023 European Masters Games. Conducted a review of the eventIMPACTS online tool for measuring the impact of events, alongside Sheffield Hallam University Sport Industry Research Centre, resulting in structured recommendations for meeting the updated objectives of the UK partners and ensuring it remains a helpful, robust and consistent tool for the events industry.

Led the development of host venue partnerships for the global series of high-paced events in spectator-friendly destinations, through innovation and technology such as the award-winning “supertri e” format (formerly Arena Games) involving televised racing in physical and virtual worlds.


Led a project to create a common set of indicators to demonstrate the tangible and intangible value of major sports events, and improve the delivery of long-term benefits including progress towards UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Developed written and video content for the UK Department of International Trade’s guidance on exporting to the Major Events & Expos sector. Also previously developed a 5-year business plan for Trivandi building on the company’s global leadership in the delivery and operation of major events and venues.

Provided insights and strategic consulting for Keneo’s appointment supporting the office of the Mayor of Paris’s hosting of the 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Applying lessons from the programmes implemented to maximise economic and social impact in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Developed a tool for destination and rights-owning members to assess the intangible tourism, social and environmental benefits of events, and generate legacy strategies and quarterly action plans to deliver these benefits.

Designed and delivered training webinars to help members and non-members with the practical implementation of both the IAEH “Event Impact Standards” and the ASOIF “Common Indicators for Measuring the Impact of Major Events”.

Legacy can mean different things for different events. The London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games were a model for leaving an impactful legacy.

Director – Iain Edmondson MBA, FCIM

For 14 years Iain played a key role in delivering a legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Initially as a member of the bid team and then as the Head of Major Events for London & Partners, where his role was to secure and manage long-term major event opportunities for London resulting in a positive impact on the city’s economy and citizens. This included leading business case development, bidding, activation and evaluation of sporting and cultural events, including over 20 major championships.

Iain is also a founding director, and now Honorary Member, of IAEH (International Association of Event Hosts), created to help not-for-profit organisations generate the best possible ROI from major events.
